March Students of the Month

Clara Gustavson
In the short two years Clara has been at HVS she has excelled at many endeavors from athletics to academics with some musical theater thrown in as well. She plays both soccer and basketball but also finds time to  volunteer with The Pipers (Sandpipers).  Her favorite volunteer activity is at the local dog shelter.  Her teachers identify her as "connected" which is no doubt results from her natural "extrovert" personality as described by her dad, Brian.  Below, Clara is joined by parents Elisabeth and Brian with grandma Donna in receiving her certificate from President Angie and Principal Jessica.

Tanner Fredrickson
According to his dad Jared, Tanner has always been someone who tries new things and strives to master whatever he tries. According to his teachers, he is "selfless" when working with classmates at school.  He likes photography and cars and loves to go to local Cars and Coffee events to take photos of the many exotic cars he sees.  His car obsession includes going with dad to race Go Karts at various tracks. Beach trash clean-up is his favorite volunteer activity.  Below he receives his certificate with dad Jared beaming by his side.

a night of swing music to benefit HVS Music sponsored by Hermosa rotary
The HVS Jazz Band, led by Dr. Buddy Clements, opened the evening's music.  In a special moment, 3 members of the Glenn Miller Orchestra played with the band.
The Glenn Miller Orchestra is the last touring Big Band in the US and presents a concert just the way it would have looked and sounded in the 1940's.  Brilliant and dynamic musicianship, playing Glenn Miller standards and other similar songs, the band enthralled the audience of more than 300.
The concert created a great opportunity to promote Hermosa Rotary and the Hermosa Schools Music Program at the same time.  Special thanks to key concert organizers Music Director Dr. Buddy Clements, Principal Jessica Bledsoe, and Rotarian Jody Leventhal, and of course the wonderful Glenn Miller Orchestra!
The 30th annual St. Patrick's Day Parade

Leading off the parade were Scouts from Troop 860 and Packs 860 & 555.  The parade was attended by 15,000 and is a favorite family event.  Fun Fact: Rotarian Travers Devine (Deceased) was one of the founders of the annual parade.  Travers was honored last year during the parade.
President Angie gets psyched up prior to the parade.
President Angie was chauffeured by Kim in her well decorated golf cart.
Councilman Ray Jackson takes a selfie with President Angie.
Dean, Kim & Steve prepare Angie's ride prior to the parade.
Two Rotarian Steves in the Formation Area.  Hermosa Cyclery Steve leads a large gaggle of cyclers in every parade.
President Angie, Kim and Steve are ready for the parade to start.

Lily Hanna, ma
