Greetings from one of the best little beach towns in the world!

As one of many Past Presidents, I feel privileged to represent both Hermosa Rotarians as well be a connection to over one million Rotarians in over 200 countries. Rotarians work in their communities, within regions across the world to help others on projects big and small.  Of course there are many volunteer service groups, but Rotary is unique in connecting the world and leveraging human and financial resources to accomplish good.

In Hermosa Beach, Rotary supports education and the students who demonstrate the Rotary motto: Service Above Self.  Our club sponsors the original Certified Farmers Market, Friends of the Parks, and is the charter organization for several youth groups including Cub Scout Packs, VentureCrew and Scout Troop 860 in addition to several valued community organizations.

Globally, we have a sister Rotary Club in Subic Bay, Philippines and provide funding for nutrition and dental care for children in need.  In partnership with other Rotary Clubs we provide clean water to remote villages in Niger, school equipment for young girls in Zambia, Scholarships for high school girls in Kenya, and solar energy projects in remote Oaxaca, Mexico.   And, for one of the most ambitious projects in human history, our club contributes yearly to Rotary’s End Polio Now campaign.

We in Hermosa Rotary are actively seeking people who want to share in these efforts, both locally and globally.  We meet in a traditional Rotarian way (we have more fun than you might guess), each Tuesday for lunch (12:15-1:30) at our Rotary Youth Building.  But, if attending a lunch meeting isn’t convenient, we have other ways for you to become involved.  All you need is a desire to serve others and a willingness to join us as Rotarians: People of Action!

Yours in Rotary Service

Steve Peterson
